Why It Matters
A book is more than just words on a page, it’s a doorway to confidence, curiosity, and possibility. But for many Latino children in Houston, that door is harder to open. Language barriers, underfunded schools, and a lack of books at home create obstacles that hold kids back from reaching their full potential. No child should feel lost in the classroom or ashamed to read out loud. Little ChangeMakers is here to change that. When a child discovers the joy of reading, everything shifts. They raise their hand in class. They dream about the future. They start to believe in themselves. And when parents gain literacy skills, they can read to their kids, help with homework, and open doors to better jobs and opportunities. This isn’t just about books, it’s about empowerment, dignity, and breaking cycles of struggle. Every story read, every word learned, every spark of confidence brings our comunidad closer to a future where every child, every family, and every generation thrives.
What We Do
At Little ChangeMakers, we do more than teach kids to read, we help them see themselves in stories, build confidence, and dream without limits.

Every child learns differently, and we meet them where they are. Our bilingual volunteers provide one-on-one reading and English support tailored to each child’s needs. Whether it’s strengthening comprehension, expanding vocabulary, or building writing skills, we make learning engaging, accessible, and culturally relevant so that kids don’t just read the words, they understand and connect with them.

Learning doesn’t stop at school, it starts at home. Our family literacy workshops help parents become their child’s first teacher by providing simple, effective strategies for reading together, navigating libraries, and even learning English side by side. Every session is offered in both Spanish and English because no parent should feel left out of their child’s education.
Children deserve to see themselves in the stories they read. Every book we provide is intentionally selected to reflect Latino voices, cultures, and experiences. We believe that when a child recognizes their own story on the page, they begin to see themselves as leaders, creators, and ChangeMakers.

A child should never have to leave school without a book to take home. We provide free books to every participant, ensuring that kids not only practice reading but fall in love with it. For schools that lack libraries, we donate extra books to fill the shelves that should have been there all along.
