Our Vision.

We envision a future where every Latino in Houston (and across Texas) has the knowledge, confidence, and opportunity to succeed. In this future, our leaders, teachers, and changemakers truly reflect the diverse comunidad they serve. Unidos, we create a more equitable and vibrant society for all.

Our Story.

Texas ChangeMakers began with a simple idea: What if we start making change right here, right now? Motivated by their love for their community, two Latinas set out to spark conversations about identity, leadership, education, and self-advocacy. They saw the need for spaces where Latinos could learn, lead, and stand confidently in their voices and identities. What started as a vision quickly became a movement. As more people stepped up, they built a network of passionate volunteers, organizing “Know Your Rights” initiatives and mentorship programs at local schools and sparking discussions about identity, leadership, and civic engagement.  The impact was immediate, and it didn’t stop there. Fueled by the enthusiasm of our volunteers and the needs we saw in Houston’s barrios, we decided to expand beyond individual efforts. In 2025, Texas ChangeMakers was founded as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit to bring that same energy into the wider community. What started as a small movement grew into a citywide initiative to educate and empower Latinos across Houston. Our story is still being written. Every volunteer, every donor, and every participant becomes part of the next chapter. This journey proves that when a community unites, real change is possible.

Our core values guide everything we do:

Michelle Fernandez

Michelle is a community advocate and the co-founder of Texas Changemakers Inc., a nonprofit organization committed to empowering Latino communities through education, civic engagement, and access to resources. As the daughter of immigrants and a first-generation American, Michelle brings a deeply personal perspective to her work. She learned English at a later age and witnessed firsthand the struggles her family endured to build a better life. These experiences shaped her understanding of the barriers faced by working-class Latino families—and fueled her commitment to breaking them down. Michelle’s leadership is grounded in compassion, lived experience, and an unwavering belief in her community’s potential. Through initiatives like Know Your Rights and Little Changemakers, she works to ensure that youth and families not only have the tools to succeed—but also the confidence to lead. For Michelle, changemaking is more than a mission—it’s a promise to her community. A promise to create a future where every voice is heard, every story is valued, and every person has the opportunity to thrive.
